MIDI Cables - Maximum Length

What is the "legal" limit on MIDI cable length? That is, what is the maximum length before I start to encounter signal problems?

The "legal" limit on midi cable runs is about 20 ft. Depending on the type and amount of information being sent, you may get satisfactory results with longer cable runs. If you are sending information approaching the midi bandwidth, like Sysex, the shorter the better. You might try another midi interface, like one connected to your printer or serial ports, the cable between the computer and interface may make up the neccessary difference.
