Without Fender, the electric bass as we know it may have never come into existence. No luthier has had a bigger influence on the development of electric bass than Fender, with their Precision Bass being the first to be mass-produced for the public. Of course, Fender's love for pushing the envelope didn't stop there, and today you can get all the hallmarks of a Fender along with the extended range of a fifth string in this selection of 5-string electric bass. If you like the telecaster-inspired style and history-making sound of the Precision Bass, one of the first instruments you should consider is the American Standard P-Bass V. Carrying on the legacy of Fender's first and most famous bass, this instrument has a high-mass vintage bridge and a five-string version of the classic Alnico split single-coil pickup. It even comes with a case for keeping it safe when it's not in use.
About a decade after the P-Bass hit the scene, Fender introduced their second electric bass guitar: the Jazz Bass. It was created to provide an option with a brighter, richer midrange for artists that wanted a stronger bass sound. Numerous varieties of the Jazz Bass are available with five strings, from the basic Modern Player edition all the way to the tricked-out American Deluxe Jazz Bass V, which features an alder body and electronics that allow you to change the N3 noiseless pickups between active and passive mode with the flip of a switch.
The P-Bass and Jazz Bass are second to none for classic bass guitar sound, but if you're in search of an instrument with a more modern character, you may prefer the Dimension Bass series instead. Among the newer instruments in Fender's catalog, these basses are aimed at the highly technical pro bassist, with a focus on clarity, versatile tone and playability. If you need a bass that gives you huge amounts of control to create your own personalized style, you're exactly the sort of musician that the Dimension Bass is made for.
The best bass technique deserves the best instrument to back it up. With a Fender 5-string electric bass, you'll know that you have a bass straight from the original source - and with it, you'll have the tools to help you unlock your full potential as a bassist.
