Today's music scene owes a lot to the windy city. Chicago has been the birthplace of many renowned instrument makers, and William and Theobaldner Ludwig are two of the headliners of that list. The Ludwig brothers had no idea how successful their company would become when they founded it in the early 1900s to manufacture a new style of bass drum pedal in a rented barn. Their big break came soon enough, though, when they released their first snare drums in the 1920s. Ever since then, Ludwig has been a household name for musicians due to their industry-leading acoustic drums. One of the snares that came out of their initial '20s wave was the Black Beauty, which has been the company's claim to fame through all the decades that followed. This aptly named snare has a nickel-plated brass body with a truly unique sound that's often imitated but never matched. The Ludwig Black Beauty is available with a few different strainers to help you get exactly the voice you want out of it.
Of course, Ludwig makes a wide selection of snares, so even if the Beauty isn't up your alley, you're likely to find an option that is. Narrow the choices down by looking for your favorite wood or metal for the shell material, as well as the overall size of snare that you prefer, and you'll find the right snare for you in no time. You'll also find a number of standalone toms and bass drums that just might tempt you into expanding or reconfiguring your drum set. Every Ludwig drum is a great option.
If you're just starting out with the drums and looking for a complete starter set, the Accent CS Combo is a good starting point. Not only is it super affordable, but it's a 5-piece set so you'll get everything you need to start banging out the beats. Are you after a kit for an aspiring drummer who's starting young and hasn't grown into the full-sized sets yet? Take a look at the Junior Outfit, which gives you Ludwig quality and sound at a smaller, more kid-friendly scale. On the other end of the spectrum, if you're a hobbyist or a pro in search of a premium drum kit, you'd be remiss not to have a look at the gorgeous Legacy Classic Liverpool 4-piece shell pack. This set's black oyster pearl finish carries on the spirit of the original "Ringo Kit" in a set of cans that would make the famed Beatle (and Ludwig player) proud.
No matter what your level of experience, you'll find Ludwig acoustic drums that are a good balance between your needs and your budget. All you need to do is take a little time to browse and deciding which drums are right for you will come naturally.
