Building instruments takes a lot of passion and expertise, so when you're looking for the best percussion, you should start by seeking out a manufacturer with plenty of each. Those are qualities that definitely apply to LP, specializing in world percussion and putting a ton of heart into everything they produce. If you want an instrument that's beautifully made and incredibly fun to play, you're on the right track with LP bongos.
As with any instrument builder worth its salt, LP has a colorful history behind it. The roots of the company go back to the early 1960s, when Martin Cohen discovered Cal Tjader's infectious Latin jazz sounds in the famed Birdland Club in New York. Cohen was so impressed that he immediately wanted his own pair of bongos, but at the height of the Cuban embargo, getting his hands on high-quality Latin percussion instruments wouldn't be easy. Not to be deterred, Martin Cohen decided to learn how to build his own bongos - and once he built his first set, he had discovered a whole new passion that led to the creation of the Latin Percussion company, or as it's called now, LP.
Although LP has built other instruments since, it's still the bongos that they're best known for. You'll find plenty to choose from here, so no matter how you like your drums, you can find a great set that's just right for you. If you're looking for an accessible, straightforward set to play just for the fun of it, a few suggestions would be the LPM200 Santana or LPM199 Mini Tunable Bongos. Need a larger, full-sized set? Try the LP City Bongos. Or, if you're a master drummer in need of some real top-of-the-line beauties, consider the LP793X Giovanni Galaxy Series Bongos or LP Generation III Bongos.
You're not likely to find a selection of bongos anywhere else that's as varied as what LP has to offer, so it's a safe bet that you'll discover your type here no matter what that type is. We've brought up a few suggestions, but there are plenty more where those came from, so don't hesitate to investigate all the other LP bongos as well! You'll be glad that you did.
