Body for Alpha a7S III Mirrorless Digital Camera.
The Sony Alpha a7S III is a full-frame mirrorless camera optimized for both still photography and video recording. It features a newly developed 12.1MP Exmor R CMOS image sensor that delivers wide dynamic range, high sensitivity and fast readout speeds for 4K video recording. The BIONZ XR image processor handles the increased data throughput and enables advanced video recording features like 4K 120p video, 10-bit 4:2:2 internal recording and 16-bit raw output over HDMI. An updated autofocus system with 759 phase-detection points offers fast, accurate focusing for both stills and video. Built-in 5-axis image stabilization provides up to 5.5 stops of compensation for sharp handheld shooting.
Versatile Full-Frame Sensor Optimized for High Sensitivity and Fast Readout
The a7S III is built around a 12.1MP Exmor R CMOS sensor that provides a good balance of resolution and low-light performance. Its large pixels and backside-illuminated design enable a standard ISO range of 80-102,400 that is expandable up to 409,600. The sensor also features a fast readout design that minimizes rolling shutter and supports continuous shooting up to 10fps. Combined with the wide dynamic range of 14 stops, this makes the a7S III well suited for both stills and video in a wide range of lighting conditions.
Advanced Video Recording and Output Options
The a7S III supports 4K video recording at up to 120p for slow-motion playback. It can also record 10-bit 4:2:2 video internally at up to 600 Mbps. 16-bit raw video output is possible over HDMI for recording with an external recorder. The camera offers S-Log3 gamma and HLG profiles for increased dynamic range and instant HDR workflows. Additional video features include variable frame rate recording, timecode sync and more.
Fast Hybrid AF and 5-Axis Image Stabilization
The a7S III has a fast hybrid autofocus system with 759 phase-detection points that cover approximately 92 percent of the image frame. The autofocus system works in conjunction with the camera's advanced subject tracking and real-time eye AF to ensure accurate focusing on subjects. Built-in 5-axis image stabilization provides up to 5.5 stops of compensation for sharp handheld shooting and video recording. The stabilization system works with any lens, including adapted and third-party lenses.
Rugged, Ergonomic Design for Multimedia Production
The a7S III has a rugged yet lightweight magnesium alloy chassis that is dust- and moisture-resistant. It has an articulating rear LCD touchscreen, high-resolution electronic viewfinder, dual memory card slots, headphone and microphone sockets and USB Type-C connectivity. The redesigned menu system provides quick access to advanced video settings. An optional grip extension and external monitors provide further flexibility for video recording. Overall, the a7S III offers impressive capabilities for both still and video shooting in a compact, well-designed package.
