When Cuban-American Mariana Bobadilla starting making Cuba-style Bongo and Congo drums in 1954, no one could've predicted the legendary reputation he would soon earn for himself. While Bobadilla was already a well-known professional trumpet player and instrument repair man, it wouldn't take long before he would launch Gon Bops, and become a Latin percussion industry leader. In modern times, Gon Bops is renowned and respected worldwide thanks to their innovative designs. One of the earliest and most respected Latin instrument manufacturers, Gon Bops saw success from the get-go. Top players of the 50's and 60's like Poncho Sanchez and Francisco Aguabella would be soon gracing the world's biggest stages with Gon Bops equipment. In fact, the Gon Bops name could even be found at 1969's Woodstock festival.
From cowbells, congas and chimes to shakers, cajons, and even percussion accessories like bongo knee pads. You'll find no shortage of beautifully crafted instruments throughout the Gon Bops catalog. One of Gon Bops best sellers is their Rattleclap. Designed with metal and wood construction for maximum sustain, the Gon Bops Rattleclap produces a long rattling sound that's eerily similar to the original effect of a horse jaw bone. Overall, this rattleclap is responsive, versatile, and perfect for both percussion ensembles and orchestral settings. Another popular item is the Gon Bops Alex Acuna Signature Special Edition Cajon. Handcrafted by Alex Acuna himself, this authentically Peruvian cajon offers an ideal amount of buzz and resonance, and works exceptionally well for both flamenco and modern applications.
Using only the finest materials, Mariana Bobadilla took great pride and passion in every drum and percussion apparatus he constructed, and today's manufacturers at Gon Bops have never forgotten this. For this reason, you can be sure that every Gon Bops instrument played has been brought to life through the same love and adoration for Latin music as they were over 60 years ago.
