Pork Pie isn't the sort of name you hear every day, which makes sense, because these aren't the sort of drums you play every day, either. At least, not until you have a set of your own. Although Pork Pie drums and percussion instruments are modern designs, their approach is definitely a traditional one: pay attention to even the smallest details to create drums and percussion that set the standard for stage and studio performance.
Like so many of the greatest instruments of all kinds, Pork Pie drums came from one craftsman's passion evolving a hobby into something more. The company was founded by Bill Detamore, who loved to use the best materials and techniques to build exceptional-quality percussion. The drumming community caught on to his work in the late 1980s, and soon enough, every drummer wanted Pork Pie on their rack. That's still the case today; the biggest difference is that Pork Pie drums are a lot easier to get your hands on now than they were in the '80s!
There are plenty of different options here to choose from, so the first step to take will be deciding what you're looking for. Interested in a complete set of Pork Pie drums to gear right up from scratch? Check out the Little Squealer 4-Piece Shell Packs, Zebra Maple 5-Piece Shell Pack or the Hip Pig 3-Piece Shell Pack, which comes in two versions specially tuned for either rock or jazz. If you want to pick out your drums "a la carte," take a look at Pork Pie's broad catalog of floor toms, snares, bass drums and more.
The bottom line is that if you're in need of drums that rock as hard as you do, Pork Pie percussion instruments are up to the challenge. Finish off your setup with the Pork Pie drum rug and one of their excellent thrones, and you'll have a drum kit that can stand with the likes of George Recile, Frank Ferrer and Marky Ramone. All three of these drummers swear by Pork Pie for their own performances - will you be the next one?
