The only thing similar about the two instruments is the tuning. Both the four string electric bass and the four string double bass (or upright bass) are tuned in “perfect fourths” from E0 to G1.

Playing techniques, amplification methods, and general physical features are very different. However, it is very common for electric bass players to play upright bass and vice versa.
