Phantom Power and Dynamic Microphones

I am using a condenser mic and a dynamic mic at the same time. Will the phantom power damage my dynamic mic?

The short answer is...

No, the phantom power will not damage your dynamic mics. And here's why:

Phantom power is a DC voltage used to power the electronics of a condenser microphone. This voltage is provided through the microphone cable by a phantom power supply (either built into a mixer or by some other in-line source). The voltage is applied to Pin 2 and Pin 3 on a typical balanced XLR cable. Because the voltage is exactly the same on both pins, phantom power will have no effect on a balanced dynamic microphone. There will be no current flow across the mic because there is no voltage difference across the output.
