It's not easy to rise from a humble repair shop owner to one of the best-respected luthiers in the business - but don't tell that to David Schecter, because that's exactly what he did. The shop opened its doors in Van Nuys, California, in 1976, and word was quick to spread. Eventually, Schecter started making his own solid-body electric guitars from scratch, and the rest is history. More than four decades later, Schecter instruments are built to the same high standards that David established back in the '70s.
All that it takes to understand the quality of a Schecter Guitar Research solid-body electric guitar is a quick look at the list of guitarists who play one: Prince, Robert Smith of The Cure, Richard Patrick of Filter, Steve Zing of Danzig and Robin Zander of Cheap Trick, for starters. With a resume like that, it's no surprise that you're interested in joining their ranks by playing a Schecter guitar of your own.
When you browse the instruments in the Schecter catalog, you're sure to find a few that stand out to you; from there, it's not too hard to figure out the perfect one. You might start your search with one of the OMEN models: these are very popular guitars, and for good reason. The OMEN-6 is an excellent axe for metal, with over-wound coils and ceramic magnets in its pickups delivering aggressive tone and the high output you need to make your amp scream. You'll also find signature instruments here, like the Jeff Loomis-6 FR. It's tuned specifically for Jeff's playing style and comes fitted with a genuine Floyd Rose bridge for silky-smooth tremolo action.
If you're the sort of guitarist who always likes to go all-out, you've got to take a look at Schecter's extended-range solid-body guitars as well. The SGR C-7, for instance, is a great choice for a first 7-string guitar, giving you amazing playability at an affordable level. And if you're really looking to break all barriers, there's no better instrument to do it with than the impressive eight-string Hellraiser C-8.
There's no secret formula to these guitars: just the right combination of experience, skill, talent and passion to build an instrument worthy to take the stage with the world's best guitarists. Schecter Guitar Research is one of the industry's great success stories, and with one of their solid-body electric guitars in your collection, you'll have the instrument you need to write a success story of your own.
