In designing and manufacturing electronic drum sets, Alesis draws on a long history of developing cutting-edge technology. Alesis is also among the best at incorporating new technology into electronic drum sets. Easy to use and always priced competitively within each electronic drum set class, Alesis is a top brand in the electronic kit market. Whether you're looking for your first electronic drum set, a volume-conscious practice e-kit or an easy-to-transport electronic drum kit for the stage, Alesis has the electronic kit for you. Rather than call their products electronic drum sets, Alesis simply calls them kits.
Experienced electronic drummers are well aware of the name Alesis. Since 1984, Alesis has been exceeding the expectations of musicians with their cutting edge electronic musical instruments, and their impressive line of electronic drum sets can be found on stages and in studios around the world. Combining professional sound with comfortable playability, Alesis electronic drums are an ideal option for anyone who's searching for a portable and lightweight alternative to an acoustic drum set.
Every day, more and more percussionists are realizing how convenient it is to own an electronic drum set. In fact, today's electronic drums have never sounded so realistic, and combined with other useful extras like volume control and immense sound libraries, it only makes sense why they're growing in popularity. With that in mind, some sets are better than others, and more often than not, many professional drummers agree that Alesis construct the best e-drum kits on the planet.
In 1995, Alesis released the DM5 rackmount drum sound module. It became the all-time best-selling rack-mount drum sound module. Now discontinued, the DM5 is a classic Alesis electronic drum sound module with a variety of drums and percussion sounds. The DM5 contains 540 stereo, 18-bit drum sounds. Each electronic drum sound can be assigned to any one of its 21 programmable drum sets. 12 trigger inputs enable the DM5 to be used with all Alesis electronic drum and cymbal pads, SURGE Cymbals, and triggering devices and electronic drum kits from most other major manufacturers. DM5 also has full MIDI I/O so it can be used as a sound source for composing, programming, and sequencing with a wide variety of controllers including keyboards, pad triggers, MPCs, and more. Alesis Dynamic Articulation technology modifies sample sounds so they change as you play them. This results in electronic drum sounds that respond accurately not only to dynamic changes, but also with the appropriate timbral and color changes you'd expect from their acoustic counterparts. The Alesis Random Sample feature also ensures you don't get the same sound twice for further creative realism. Built-in Alesis studio effects including reverb and ambiance ensure that you can send a complete, finished sound to the PA, recording system, and your headphones with no additional processing.
The first Alesis electronic drum kit was introduced in 2006, the DM5 Kit. Now discontinued, the Alesis DM5 Kit was an entry-level complete electronic drum kit. The DM5 Kit featured rubber drum pads. It had one snare pad, two tom pads, and a kick drum pad. Unlike most electronic drum sets today, the Alesis DM5 Kit also used a rubber pad for the hi-hat. The DM5 Kit offered pro sound and comfortable playability, quick setup and easy portability, as well as a versatile percussion sound library. Thousands of drummers got started practicing quietly on an electronic drum set with headphones thanks to the Alesis DM5 Kit. Like all Alesis electronic drum sets, the DM5 functions equally well for recording and performing.
The current Alesis electronic drum kit family includes the Alesis Nitro Mesh Kit, as well as variation of the Alesis Strike, Alesis Surge, Alesis Crimson, Alesis Command, Alesis DM10 and the Alesis Compact 4 Electronic Drum Kit.
So which Alesis electronic drum set is right for you? That will come down to your own tastes and preferences. For example, if you're new to electronic drums, the DM Lite 5-piece kit is a perfect way to get your feet wet. Featuring four drum pads and three cymbal pads, every piece of this set has an authentic feel and natural sound. Additionally, the DM Lite's module contains 10 ready-to-play kits, 30 songs, and 200 different drum and cymbal sounds.
Now for those who are already well-acquainted with electronic drums, taking your talents to the next level is easy with the DM10X 6-piece set. Featuring a 10" snare, 12" hi-hat, two 14" crashes, a 16" triple-zone ride and a module with more than 1,000 sample-based sounds, the DM16X e-drum kit is nothing short of magnificent.
Being able to adapt to other playing methods and styles is what makes the difference between a good drummer and a great one, and it's for this reason why every percussionist can benefit from owning an electronic drum set. If you're thinking about giving them a shot, just remember that Alesis is passionate about inspiring creativity through technology, and the proof lies in every electronic drum set they design.
