When you hear 'TASCAM,' you probably think recording. And even if you don't, after you've seen the recorders featured here, chances are pretty high that you will. This hardware is TASCAM's bread and butter, after all - these are their flagship products, and that says a lot about the quality you can expect. TASCAM multitrack recorders are must-have equipment for countless studios from the professional level right down to hobbyists, so you'll be joining some pretty elite ranks when you add one of these models to your setup.
Like other kinds of studio gear, TASCAM recorders come in several different shapes, sizes and feature sets so that you can choose exactly what your individual needs call for. Take the SS-R100 and S-R200 Professional Solid State Recorders for instance: these are rack-mountable, which makes a lot of sense considering that's the preferred format for the broadcast and contractor applications they're built to handle.
For multitrack recorders aimed at high-end music studios, consider the DP-32 Portastudio models. If you record to CD routinely, check out the TASCAM DP-32 Digital 32-Track Portastudio. Or, for a digital-exclusive model, take a look at the DP-32SD. These two recorders have the same impressive functionality; choosing between them is just a matter of knowing what media you prefer to use.
If your recording needs are light (for example, if you need a way to record high-quality demos for your band), the best option might be one of TASCAM's smaller multitrack recorders like the DP-03 series Portastudios or the DR-680 Solid State 8 Track Location Recorder. They've got more modest feature sets and fewer channels than their bigger siblings, but the tradeoff is that they're much more portable. When you want to record anywhere and dozens of channels aren't needed, these more compact models are the way to go.
The best thing about the wide variety of TASCAM multitrack recorders is that it has something to offer musicians and audio engineers from all walks of life. No matter what kind of performance you need in a recorder, you can be sure that there's an option here ready to deliver it. The only thing you've got to worry about is choosing!
